Any tips on how you make this photo (and others you take) look less like a “snapshot” and more soft and “movie” like? I’m not sure how else to explain it, other than this has the soft look like a still from a Hollywood movie. Is it faster shutter speed?
I’m using a Nikon D40, have a 50mm prime, 18-55mm kit, and 55-200mm zoom and would love to achieve results like this.
Well, I am not sure about the soft/hollywood look, but I can describe what I did .. Although honestly I think a lot of the work here was just being in the right place at the right time.. My title is indicative of why I took the picture — hard to take a bad one during the “golden hour” of last sunlight..
But beyond that, I metered the shot pointing right at the reflection so it would be minimized in the final exposure..
Postprocessing, I used the “Andy” plugin in bibblelite to desaturate it and re-add color back — the net effect of which is a slightly more contrasty feel .. tweaked the levels a bit to emphasize the trees over the foreground.. that’s about it..
